Cars and Stethoscopes

Ha Ha Ha. JM, my 17 year old, He's a riot. Yep. he is just so so funny I can barely contain myself, (insert sarcasm).

We were at the doctors office. I had to talk to the doctor, so after the exam, he and I were in the examination room waiting for the doctor to return. JM looked over at the stethoscope that was hanging on the wall...

This is the conversation that occurred...

JM- It would be cool to have a stethoscope.

Me- I have one. (in my EMT bag).

JM- No, I mean a REAL one.

Me- Mine is real.

JM- No, I mean a real one that can be used by doctors.

Me- Mine is real. It is the exact same kind, bought at the exact same type of store that the doctors use.

JM- Not REAL doctors.

Me- Yes. Real doctors use the same kind I have.

JM- Mom, you know how parents go out and buy their little baby a little toy steering wheel and set it up in front of their kid and tell them it is a REAL car? They tell the kid that he is really driving a car and the kid believes it? The kid is so proud of himself as he "drives" the car down the road, beeping and waving. Your stethoscope is like that little toy car.

Me- Ha Ha. JM, my stethoscope is real, though. It isn't a toy.

JM- That's what they WANT you to believe. they give you your toy stethoscope and "Presto" you're a doctor!

Me- (a tad bit exasperated) JM, I was just saying that it is a real stethoscope.

JM- I know it is. (smiling) And it's a "real" car that baby is driving too!

I think the reasons for my mental state are becoming more and more clear to everyone......

Slap him in the head. :-)

I hope they give all the EMT's real stethoscopes. Not the yellow plastic ones. LOL!

Give him a cardboard box and tell him it's his real PC, cell phone & television for a week. LOL!

Don't forget that two cups and a piece of string make a dandy phone. Then you can take off the string and have wireless phones with no bars.

Did you gain some gray hairs from that conversation?

Oh, that's so funny! He had to know he was pulling your strings and pushing your buttons!!

You need to buy one of the kiddie doctor bags, and tell him "here you go... just like mommy's". Hahahaha!

Stethoscope starts with 's' too...just like sphygmometer. I don't love those either. But, I do know a real stethoscope when I see one and a real EMT when I see her.

Next time you're at Goodwill, check out those kiddie cars.... Maybe you could get him some teether keys to go with it. (And a doctor kit!)

As we said when I was younger, he's cruisin' for a bruisin'.

Why don't you serve him some toy food for dinner tonight?!

That's a funny conversation. I think I would buy the toy stethoscope and pull that one out of your EMT bag and see what he says.

I was just gonna say the same think Kelly said! Conk him over the head with it! Geeez.

Now I was just gonna say what you said in response to her. Actually I was gonna say get him a cardboard box with a plastic steering wheel.

Ok after reading everyones response now here is what we need to do. Put out a blog call to everyone who wants to participate in his birthday and have everyone send a gift that is some sort of makeshift real item that a teenage boy would want. He'll be set! LOL!

Something tells me he has known what buttons to push for a long time. Be sure the horn works on the steeering wheel and he can push that button for awhile. ; )

Isn't he in a band....the possiblities here are boundless: a toy guitar, drum kit...one of those cute echo-mics....

Suprised he's still walking around and talking. I'm sure you were tempted to use some of your "play" EMT tools to knock him out!

In all fairness, we were both laughing.
