Bed Time!

I really tried to go to sleep.
I laid down on my bed.
But just as soon as I was snug.
The thoughts raced through my head.

They start with any little thing.
I try to block them out.
But just like all those other nights.
Soon they start to shout.

Everyone has thoughts at night
Some may get them up
Things like "Did I lock the door"
Or "Did I feed the pup".

But mine are whirling dervish types
That jump from left to right.
They twirl around and up and down
And keep me up at night.

Perhaps there was a tv show
That I had seen last week
Or a song that's in my head
Whose lyrics were unique.

It could just be the ticking
Of the clock upon the wall.
Or water that is dripping
From the bathroom down the hall.

Next thing you know my mind is racing.
Brain on overdrive
From there, who knows what's coming next.
As new thoughts come alive.

I know I NEED to get some sleep.
I'm not a morning person.
But if I stress about the time
The thoughts will only worsen.

I think of things I need to do
I think of things I've done.
I think of times that weren't too good.
I think of times of fun.

I've tried to write these things all down
Before I go to sleep.
That never helps (no, not one bit)
Into my mind they creep.

Tonight I thought of Kevin Bacon.
Please don't ask me why.
I played that game named after him
Of that I can't deny.

I finally put that thought to rest.
It's almost 3 AM.
I think I spend most every night
In perpetual REM.

I'm going to try again.
But I have a nagging hunch.
That if I don't sleep very soon.
I might just sleep through lunch.

Good Night...hopefully!

A Very Merry Late Birthday!!!!

One of our blog friends had a birthday this past Monday. She may think I forgot but I didn't. I even got her a card.....ahem....and it is sitting here right beside me.

I wish I could link you to her but I am having computer-user problems. You all know her anyway. www.richgifts.blogspot.com

I have, however, written a few special short songs to let her know how special she is. I wasn't able to write the actual melody because of the countless hours I spent on the lyrics. I wanted to make sure it "spoke" to everyone that read it. So I sat down and I wrote, I deleted, I pondered and I wrote some more. Finally I was able to come up with exactly what I wanted to say.

So, Happy Belated Birthday Edie.
And these songs are especially for you!!

(Sing to the tune of Three Blind Mice)

Edie E
Edie E

Edie Edie E
Edie Edie E

E-Edie Edie E-E-Edie
E-Edie E-Edie E E Edie
E-Edie E-Edie E-E-Edie

E-E-Edie!

(This next song is sung to the tune of Ring Around the Rosies)

E-Edie Edie Edie
E-Edie Edie Edie
Edie
Edie
E-EDIE!

.............I had to stop and wipe a tear from my eye while typing that. It just touched me and at the risk of sounding proud, I just think that the lyrics to these tunes are so touching and paint a beautiful picture of our good friend.

(This is my last song. Please sing it to the tune of I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy)

Edie Edie Edie Edie
Edie Edie Edie E
E-E-E-Edie Edie E-Edie.
Edie
E-E-E-E-Edie!

E-Edie Edie Edie Edie.
Edie Edie E-Edie.

Edie Edie Edie E
Edie Edie Edie
Edie
E-Edie
E-Edie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Reason IS The Season

I looked out the window.
I stifled a yawn.
The blanket of snow
is finally gone.

Although it was pretty
So pure and so clean.
When my toes are ice cold
I can be rather mean.

Now the grounds covered
With sticks and with mud.
The river is rising
We might have a flood.

Each morning I'm freezing
And wanting a fire.
By noon I'll be sweating,
(opps, ladies perspire).

The weather in April
Is hard to predict
Even the weathermen
often get tricked.

So I wake up each morning
and bundle up warm.
As the day starts to progress
I start to transform

I change from my blue jeans
To shorts around noon.
I know that the sweatshirt
Will have to go soon.

So I'm changing my clothes
on and off through the day.
The windows I open and close
on the way.

I'm telling you this
So you'll know the real reason.
It's NOT menopause!!
It only the season.....

Twas the MORN After Christmas

Twas the MORN after Christmas.
I lay in my bed.
I smiled as I thought of the day up ahead.

Christmas Day had been grand.
Of that there's no doubt.
But busy with tidings and running about.

I thought of my calendar
Hung on the wall.
Not a single thing on it
Nothing at all.

I went from my bed
to my family room first.
It looked like a giant
pinata had burst!

The previous days beauty
Had somehow slipped out
There was barely a spot
for me to walk about.

The lights on my tree
that had been oh so bright
Looked crooked and sagged
A sad looking sight.

The room had looked lovely
But not any more
I looked but could not find
A clear spot on the floor.

The snow out the window
had now turned to rain.
My dog lay there chewing
on a wrapped candy cane.

I trudged in the kitchen.
By now no surprise.
Yesterdays dishes
All greeted my eyes.

My thoughts went from resting
to cleaning this mess
But where to get started
I couldn't process.

A game plan was needed.
I was on a mission.
To get this place clean
Would take a magician.

But I couldn't get started.
Overwhelmed I just stared.
I stared and I stared
And I stared and I stared.

But then it just hit me.
And once and for all.
I knew why my doctor
prescribed Adderall.

I then took my meds,
Diet Coke was my drink.
Eventually my brain
was able to think.

I started to clean.
But still no desire.
I went and sat down
with a book by the fire.

I couldn't get settled.
Was edgy at most.
So I sat at my computer.
And wrote out this post.

Now that I'm finished.
The meds have kicked in.
I'll conquer the clutter.
It's time to begin!!

Hope you all had a wonderful Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Superior Writing of 8thGradeADHDMe

I am just sure that many of you must wonder how I ended up with such incredible writing skills. After all, this type of writing isn't taught in schools...thank goodness.

Well, I believe I have had this gift most of my life. I ran across a poem that I wrote in 8th grade. Sadly, I believe 8th great was my acme. I will say that my writing "finesse" hasn't changed one bit.

Before I show my poem, I'm going to write out a few of the lines from some of the poems that were written by other kids in the class,( the teacher had put a book together of everyone's work). Reading these also will make it obvious I was never really in a group of my peers.

They all wanted to be so deep or so serious.....

"Show yourself, I won't laugh. I scarce remember how..."

"They sway to the slow music of the wind, as if dancing to a waltz....."

"Short people are the same as, anywhere we go. They even wrote a song about us. I may be the shortest everywhere I go, but I'm the tallest in my mind...."

Pretty deep stuff for a bunch of 8th graders.

OK, That was a short sample of a few clips from a few of the other students poems.

Here's Mine

While walking around a store one day,
A person I happened to see.
I knew who she was. But wasn't quite sure.
Oh, who could that cute person be?

As I stared at that person in wonder,
One thing I noticed of she.
That person was making fun!
That person was mimicking me!

And then I saw the frame.
I laughed right out in glee.
I looked in that mirror and said.
"That cute little person is ME!"

The End....I got an A+

If You Hear What I Say Then You Heard What I Said........

I wrote this last Friday but I wasn't sure whether or not to post it. After all, I would hate for someone to steal the words. copyright them and then make millions off of my song. Actually, I hesitated because I wasn't sure how far I wanted to let you into my head....ok, here we go.

If Alberquando--12 years old, had his way, he would stay up all night and sleep all day. Today at noon I insisted he get up. He begged for 5 more minutes. I complied. 5 minutes later he still begged and pleaded for more time. I told him if he didn't get up I was going to sing. That drives him CRAZY. My wake up songs are random, made up on the spot and most annoying. He STILL didn't get up. Ok, he asked for it. I start to snap my fingers in a nice even tempo and .....

"It's after 12:00 and you're still in bed.
It's time to get up so do what I said.
Lucy's best friend was married to Fred.
Greens a nice color but so is red.
Pencils are made with a thing called lead."

(you have to sing it!)

"Mom, STOP" he says, but he's still in bed...

"You want me to stop, yes you begged and plead.
Gonna tell you a story bout a man named Jed.
He was a poor mountaineer barely kept his family fed.
A really nice horse could be a thoroughbred.
If it starts to snow, I'll need to find the sled"

"Ok, Ok, mom I'm up!" He gets up. But OH NO I'm stuck.

"I can't get this stupid song out of my head.
Another name for butter is oleo spread.
If you're gonna sew a button then you'll need some thread.
If you're not quite a doctor then your probably pre-med.
People from Deliverance are mostly inbred."

This is crazy. I need to get this song to go away. I'll go fix Alberquando some breakfast (lunch?) and try not to think about it.

"To make toast and jelly you will need some bread.
If it's not underneath then it may be overhead.
If I want a rake I'll look in the tool shed.
If you hear what I say then you heard what I said.
If you drove real fast then you probably sped"

Ok, this is out of control. I'm going to stop this right NOW!

"I want this to stop but it continues instead.
Mr Beatty's friend's probably call him Ned.
This song won't stop and I'm feeling dread.
If you ran away yesterday you probably fled.
If you're not alive then you must be dead.
If you're in the lead then you're the one that led.
If you're in love then you'll probably wed."

This is really ridiculous. I'm sorry. I can't seem to make it stop. Maybe I'll go read a book.

"I picked out a book but it was one that I'd read.
If you cut your finger yesterday it probably bled.
If you go where you went then you went where you tread.
If your name's Theodore you might answer to Ted."

I think tomorrow I'll just let him sleep in.................
