Today is Tuesday. You Know What That Means.....

Today is Tuesday.
You know what that means.
We're gonna have a special guest!

So put on your ears,
Like good Mousekateers,
Cause Tuesday is Guest Star Day!!!

Today is the day you have all been waiting for.
Today's special guest is a special request from Karen at Surviving Motherhood.

You may all roll you eyes and groan out loud, but after a few moments a tiny wistful smile will cross over your face. You'll close your eyes and sway ever so slightly to the music. You may even catch yourself humming. Maybe you were a teenager. Maybe you were in your 20's or your 30's. But at some time in your life, I can almost guarantee you, that you were standing on a dance floor, slow dancing (ok, rocking slowly back and forth), the lights were twirling around the room, and for 3 or 4 minutes you were floating on air. Because that was when you were listening to Mandy, Weekend in New England, Even Now or just about any of this week's special guest's songs.

I couldn't decide which one to choose. So....you are now privileged to hear a medley of songs from the talented composer who "wrote the songs that made the whole world sing....."

He was my reason for being for a while....if I still had the middle school/high school diary, I could show you all the clips and comments. Of course, growing up in NJ, you heard a LOT of Barry Manilow! And I knew every song....truly. Had them on LP, 8-track, cassette....

This was quite a medley, and I'm thinking it's a bit old as Whitney is out in the front row..... You can hear a lot more raspies in his voice--years of performing, though! Decades!!

I believe he is no longer touring. Wonder if he's still writing for other people.

Probably the most ironic story is that "I Write the Songs" was a song he did NOT write. (Mandy was also originally entitled Brandy, but the Looking Glass had already done the classic Brandy in '72....)

The man knows about modulation and the big finish. Nobody does it like Barry....

I can truthfully say I've never been on a dance floor swaying to any of his tunes. Builderman does not dance. Ever. I started dating him when I was 15. So my dancing is done in exercise classes. That works for me!

Ohhhh *BARRY*!!!
Makes me wanna go buy a cd; or ALBUM.
I remember we'd just moved and I missed my friends and BOYFRIEND horribly. I nearly wore my record out, laying for hours on my red, crushed velvet bedspread. ;)
THINK IM GONNA GO scarf ANOTHER CHICKOSTIX. ;)
(Hope you got my email!)

Terrible of me, admittedly, but when I saw the picture I refused to click on the play button...just kind of thought ewwwwwww! That being said, I rock out a mean "Could It Be Magic" on the piano....

Ewwww, I mean great post, LOL

I don't particularly care for Barry Mellon. That's what I call him.

First, ADHD, thank you! I have a great big smile on my face. *GRIN*
Second, CK, and Greg - if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. Learned that one from Thumper on Bambi. ha!

Seriously, I have so many great memories growing up and listening to Barry. Have you ever seen him in concert? I have been to four or five of his shows. He is an AMAZING showman.

Thanks for making him your guest today. I fully enjoyed the medley.
And my computer - which has been rather freaky with videos of late - played the whole thing perfectly. Guess it likes him, too. *grin*

As strong as I've gotten the past couple of months pumping Iron...I just couldn't get my muscles to push that video arrow. Nope, sorry...

Your sister is a nut. I liked him when I was in middle school, but as an adult his arrogance has been so remarkable that I lost what little interest I had. But I do wistfully remember "Mandy." Wonder how many baby girls were named "Mandy" or "Amanda" after that song.
