Today Is Tuesday. You Know What That Means.

Today is Tuesday.
You know what that means.
We're gonna have a Special Guest!!!

Today was the birthday of a man that the New York Times was quoted as being "one of the most prodigally talented and successful musicians in American history".

Leonard Bernstein (Aug 25, 1918-Oct 14, 1990) , was one of the first conductors that was born and educated in the United States, to receive worldwide acclaim. He received The Ditson Conductors Award, The Sonning Award (Denmark), The George Peabody Medal (Johns Hopkins University), 8 Grammys, A Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and A Tony Award.....just to name a few.

He was a conductor, composer, author, teacher and pianist. He composed 3 symphonies, 2 operas, 5 musicals and numerous other pieces.

There is no doubt about what I think of when I hear his name. West Side Story. (You may want to fast forward to 2:22 on this clip. That's when the song starts.)

Yes but was he ever featured on Hee Haw? I don't think so. So close but so far away. I have never actually sat down and watched West Side Story. I have seen bits and pieces but that is all.

Grabbed my coffee and skipped right down to the computer nook to read the blogs, espcially because it is Tuesday and I know what that means!!

Hello Tuesday girl.

Bernstein. A musical genius. I love Westside Story

"Smoke on your pipe and put that in it." good line.

"...Industry boom in Amer-eeka..."
Um, natta so a much-uh- The contemporary re-write would have to be something like "...Industry booma in Chi-nee-uh.." A little sad for Amer-eeka, especially for manufacturing in Meesh-ee-gun, where we continue to hang on to the #1 state for unemployment title.

BUT God is in control. "Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him." Psalm 62:5

It is quite interesting to listen to this song...in the perspective of what is happening in America...but I am in agreement with 2Thinks...God is in control!

I watched this on tv with my grandma when I was a kid. I had no idea what I was watching, I just remember all the dancing. Talk about some hot topics here. Ooooh.

Let's keep our God in Amer-eeka!

I never saw this movie. I don't feel like I missed much. LOL! I love musicals, but this one not so much.

I'm with you Kelly!

Thanks for popping over to my blog MyADHD, I'd never thought of the issue from your perspective, but I imagine not many people think from your perspective! Snigger!

This was as gritty a musical as a Spike Lee movie in his hey-day. It's easy to remember the music and the passion in the music, but when you get down to it, whew.... sad stuff!

I first saw Rita Moreno on the Electric Company as a kid (another good show for Today is Tuesday sometime). But I REALLY saw her in this movie...and I respect her for everything that she has fought for in establishing Latin American artists in the U.S. She's wonderful.

I know, it's supposed to be about Bernstein. Genius, yes.
