I have no idea when it happened. I couldn't tell you the day, the month, or even the year.

There I am, riding down the road in my car, windows down, enjoying the fresh air, singing along to some really great music. They were playing some of my favorite songs and then it happened. The announcer came on the radio station and said welcome to "Flashback Friday"!. It was "Oldies" day! Wait a minute! When did that happen? What day did they just decide to turn "recent" songs into oldies? I happen to know VERY well that oldies are songs by Buddy Holly, Petula Clark, Dean Martin, even The Mamas and The Papas.

How is it possible that if I can remember the time that the song came out, it can be called an oldie. Someone is obviously going to get in big trouble at that radio station. Someone obviously made a BIG mistake.

Some of these songs just came out a couple of years ago......wait, let me think. OK, maybe it was more than just a couple of years. Maybe 5? Wait a minute....hmmm......OK, it really wasn't that long ago. Maybe about 1985. That was just the other day, right? Lets see.. 1985. That was only ... .... ..... hold on, I think I added wrong. This is 2009. So that means the songs that came out in 1985 are , are......................oh, someone must be at the door. Gotta go. Bye!

Someone is at the door at 1:30 am? A word of advice. Don't answer it! LOL.

I agree with you about the *real* oldies. Songs from the 80's are NOT old. :)

It's 1:23 am over here. Did 2:00 am happen over there? :)

I would email you but I read over at 2Thinks that you haven't been checking your email. *grin*

I hear ya. I distinctly remember walking down the hall at our former church, which also had a school, and being stopped short by "dress like the 70's!" posters for their pep rallies. They might as well have had a poster that said "Linda is old!" But the '70's were to the '90's what the '50's were to the '70's.

And what kills me now is since I married a little late, I could actually be the mom of some of my kids' teachers. My girl's orchestra teacher last year was a little shocked to find out his mom was actually a year or two younger than I am. But he wasn't as grossed out as I was! :-)

I think you are right, actually, because there is no way a song from 1985 can be an oldie. Solid Gold Saturday with disco songs--I can consider those oldies now.

1985? Punk rock? Techno-pop? Oldies?! Rubbish!

What was it, by the way?

I agree.

An old song would be "Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do. I'm half crazy all for the love of won't be a stylish marriage, I can't afford a carriage, but we'll look sweet upon the seat of a bicycle built for two."

Another oldie, "Don't sit under the apple tree with anyone else but me, anyone else but me, anyone else but me, No No No...."

Time to put away that 8 track and face the facts. We are not that young. Everything today is just a remake of our old songs. :)

So now I understand all the car drivers swerving all over the road. They are trying to do highlevel math listening to the golden moldies station.
Try singing with me:
Get yer moped runnin...
Head out on the sidewalk...
Swerving round the trash cans. Please don't hit the mailbox...
Born to be mild.

next time pull over and do long addition... The knock at the door is me. I'm returning the side-view mirror you left on my handlebar.
love ya bunches,

When I realized I was having my 20th high school reunion was when I figured out I was old.

I hate that! Everything about me is suddenly screaming "oldie". And I think I saw some AARP members lurking around the corner spying on me. Help!
