One Man's Trash AND It's A Small World After All!!

Last week I spent any available time working on my e-bay account. It never (ever-ever) ceases to amaze me what people will buy and what they will pay for it. I really think it becomes like a gambling addiction and once someone bids against you, you have a real NEED to outbid them. I didn't have any outrageous sales this time but did well and just about everything sold. However, there have been times when you just wouldn't believe what people paid for certain items. Well, maybe you would believe it. It's not like I would lie to you about it. What purpose would that serve? That's right...none at all.

Anyway, there was a pair of jeans, previously worn, that my friend had owned and then cut off into shorts. I don't have the original picture that I put on e-bay any more but it was something similar to the picture of blue jean cut off shorts that is floating around on this page somewhere. (Chatty Kelly HELP!!) I can't figure out how to put the pics in the correct place!!!!

Now it wasn't like the picture ( that is somewhere on this page ) of the thin, statuesque model that is gazing off into space thinking about when she will be allowed to eat her next piece of celery. It was just a picture of the shorts laid out on a tablecloth. I started the bidding at 99 cents. The next day the bidding was around $4.00 and I was thinking that was cool. I had hesitated even putting them up for auction because I was pretty sure they wouldn't sell. WRONG. They ended up selling for $42.00 plus $6.99 shipping and handling. AMAZING! That isn't the most expensive thing I've sold but it is definitely the most surprising.

Here's something else that was VERY surprising. Last year when I was doing some e-bay work, Kelly sent me a post from a lady's blog who had also sold a few things on e-bay. Kelly thought I might enjoy reading it since I was working on ebay too. At the time, I had no idea who this lady was but her story was interesting, so I bookmarked it. The title of her post was "Cash Cow" (do you know who you are yet?). Months later I happened to come across the post and that is when I realized that it was written by none other than our very good friend, (insert friend's name here). I was going to write out who it was, but I worked so hard at learning how to link, that I think I'm going to make you click on the link to see who this lady is.

I guess the saying is true...It IS a Small World After All!!! Oh, and by the way, I'm NOT the one that paid $810.00 for the cow......but I wish I was the one that had been selling it!! : )

ADHD in Virginia

I'm starting to think that Virginia must have ADHD. Specifically, the weather.

About 2 weeks ago I woke up one morning to a gloomy day. It was raining and chilly. I opened the door to let the dog in and saw the rain. As I was wiping the mud off of her, JM walked in the room and said, "Wow, a blizzard!". I glanced up and the snow was pouring down in huge snowflakes and the ground was starting to get covered. Seriously in a matter of less than 2 minutes! Remember, this is Virginia. It can snow for hours before the ground is covered. The snow was coming down so hard and blowing around so much that I finally understood how people could actually get lost in blizzards. Plus the snow has an odd texture. It looked like styrophome. So I took a picture.

5 minutes later I took another picture. The car and ground were covered in snow.
It snowed hard for about 10 minutes.

Then it started to rain. I took a picture.

Then the sun came out. I took a picture.

The temp went up to about 60 degrees. The snow melted. The car and ground dried and it was as if nothing ever happened.

All this happened in a period of less than 20 minutes.

HHmmmm.... is it possible for weather to have ADHD?
We'll talk about this a little bit more on my next post.<span class=MyADHDMe" border="0">

ENCORE For Greg and For Kelly

MyADHDMeThis is for Greg and for Chatty Kelly.

Greg...I know you don't get sound at work, but when you get home tonight, you need to play this and sing along. THEN next time we have an "I See What You're Saying" you can give a concert! (and you already proved that you remember the words!!)

Chatty Kelly- Your favorite song from the musical.

Everyone else- bear with me for one more day and this will be out of my system...maybe...probably...possibly....I'm not sure.

(OK, I'm still using the signature as a greeting. I'll figure it out...or not)

Today is Tuesday,,,You Know What That Means 3-10-09 "Jesus Christ Superstar"

Today is Tuesday.
You know what that means.
We're gonna have a Special Guest!!

In just 2 more days, Chatty Kelly and I are going to see the musical, Jesus Christ Superstar.

I am SO excited!!

We saw it MANY years ago (How long has it been, CK?)

It was t
hen and still is my #1 Favorite Musical of all time! I've called many others (Fiddler on the Roof, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Sound of Music) ONE of my favorites, but Jesus Christ Superstar is my #1 Favorite!! (I must make a comment that every time I type the word "Musical", I think of Linda at 2nd Cup of Coffee and her deep and genuine LOVE for musicals.... ok.... NOT.... actually she isn't a huge fan of musicals but she does an incredible Maria from The Sound of Music!).

Before I play my clip for today, I need to take a few moments and talk about the controversy about Jesus
Christ Superstar. I know that some Christians regard it as blasphemous, but I disagree 100%. Very seldom will you find me debating religious topics. I believe in God. I believe in Jesus Christ. I believe He is the Son of God. I believe He died on the cross and rose again in 3 days to save every one of us. But if someone wants to debate.....I refer them to someone else that can back up what we know is true with facts from the Bible....someone a bit more knowledgeble.

I did some research on Jesus Christ Superstar...and Yes, as with most topics, everyone has an opinion. Many critics of this musical argue that because it ends with Christ's death and not the resurrection,
that it is Anti-Christian. OK, Spoiler alert*** We all know what happened 3 days after his death. When the play ends..... I don't think there is any acting or singing that could come close to the feelings I get....the sadness...the anticipation.... the reverance ..... the joy....The AWE. Its ending makes you Think and Feel.

After a bit of research, I have a few quotes about Jesus Christ Superstar. Some are For and some are Against.

Paster E L Bynum, Tabernacle Baptist Church, made these remarks regarding Jesus Christ Superstar, "Rotten to the core. Contains some of the most blasphemous statements we have ever heard. Even the most talented and dedicated musicians cannot make Rock Music honor the Lord. Rock Music should not be mixed with The Christian religion. It doesn't fit in church, nor can it be used to g
loify Christ anywhere else!".

Ted Neely, who played the part of Jesus in one of the tours said, "Fans by the dozen come backstage to meet me and share personal stories about how my performance brought them to Christianity...especially teens and preteens."

A review about the movie, by D.R. Devence, (movie Rated G) "Jesus Christ Superstar drove folks to religion like no other movie ever has or likely ever will. This movie made it "cool" to be Christian. Reguardless of their reasons, some of those people stayed with the church long after the effects from the movie wore off. How can any Christian complain about that?"

There will always be peop
le that are able to find fault with anything.
There are people that condemn or denounce The Left Behind Series, Christian pop/rock music, Veggie Tales, The Passion of The Christ, because they find them to be sacrilegious or blasphemous in one way or another.

One review I found interesting stated that many Christians found fault with Jesus Christ Superstar because of the scene where Jesus is praying at the Garden of Gethsemane. People found fault because it made Jesus look confused and, at times, unwilling to accept his fate.

Have you read Mark 14:35-36?..... " Going a little farther, he fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him. "Abba, Father", he said, "everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what You will.""

This clip is from the movie. It is Jesus praying in the Garden of Gethsemane. It is long but I hope you watch the entire thing. It is sad and it is disturbing AND many of its lyrics are straight from the Bible.
We cannot imagine what Jesus felt at this time, but I think this scene strongly portrays my interpretation.MyADHDMe

Just Call Me Billy

Have you ever wondered what it felt like to be Billy Carter? (ahem..that would be Jimmy's Brother).

How about Jeb Bush?

I did a little bit of research on the siblings of a few famous actors and actresses. It seems that MANY of their siblings were ALSO actors and or actresses.

TOM HANKS ... (I just LOVE him. He is definitely in that Top 5 list of my favorite actors that I haven't created yet!). Tom Hanks has a younger brother named Jim. JIM IS AN ACTOR TOO!

Jim Hanks had a role in Forrest Gump. He was a double for Tom when he was running. Jim also is the voice of Tom on various Toy Story and Polar Express video games. Not to mention, he is the voice of Geoffrey on the Toys R Us commercials.

JOHN TRAVOLTA- I was in high school when "Grease" was released. That was when I took down my poster of Henry Winkler and replaced it with John Travolta...wow, I thought he was the coolest of cool.

John Travolta has quite a few brothers and sisters. All actors and actresses. Here is a sampling of their work. His Sister Ann was a member of the wedding party in Urban Cowboy. She was also the pizza girl in Saturday Night Fever. His sister Margaret was "Reporter #1" in the movie Michael.

HARRISON FORD- Just as cool today as he was 25 years ago. When it comes to action flicks, he can get the "begeemas" beaten out of him and still make an incredible come back and save the day.

Harrison Ford has a brother. His name is Terence Ford. He's also an actor. In Wikopedia under his name for Trivia, it says..."Brother of Harrison Ford". You do have to give him credit though. In his list of credentials, there are no Indianna Jones or Star Wars movies.

Terence Ford..
Beverly Hills 90210- 1 episode- Jack McKay
Dynasty- 1 episode-Guest #1
Falcon Crest- 1 episode
Scarecrow and Mrs King- 1 episode
Knots Landing- 1 episode- cell guard.

BILL MURRAY- I think he is HILARIOUS! He has that quirky sense of humor. You know, the kind that can ONLY be acquired from being a member of the Original Saturday Night Live cast. He had quite a few siblings. All actors and actresses. His brother Brian had roles in Caddyshack and Groundhog Day(hhmmm). Brian and 2 other brothers all had roles in Scrooged. One of them played Bill's brother and the other 2 were guests at the Christmas party.

Julia Roberts- One of the highest paid females in Hollywood. Her older sister Lisa is an actress. She played in..
Mona Lisa Smile as Miss Albini and
Runaway Bride as Elaine from Manhattan.

Are you starting to notice a trend?

Remember the famous brothers Daryl and Daryl? "Hello. I'm Larry. This is my brother Daryl and this is my other brother Daryl". Still need a hint....The Bob Newhart Show.

*****************

OK, where is this all going? Monkeys Are Funny......

What made me think of all of this?

Did you all read 2nd Cup of Coffee's excellent interview with Chatty Kelly? Chatty Kelly aspires to AND is well on her way to becoming a known Christian Writer.

1st of all, don't worry, there will no books titled "Growing Up With Chatty Kelly", but I have to chuckle as I picture this....

Flash forward about 5 years and picture the front cover story of the National Enquirer.

"Famous Christian Writer has Monkey For Sister!"

"Famous Christian Writer's Sister Tried to Drown Herself in Bathtub by Sticking Her Hair In The Drain"

"Famous Christian Writer Denies Her Sister Ever Thought She Was A Junebug"

"Famous Christian Writer's Sister Condemns Children Books"

HAHA....Maybe It will be safer for me to write that book after all.....

Congratulations Kelly on your Interview at 2nd Cup and on your stories that are sold and selling.
And if I ever decide that I want to be a writer....well, untuck your shirt and that will be me, hanging onto your shirt tail, getting dragged across the floor....

Revised Today Is Tuesday, You Know What That Means....3-3-09

Today is Tuesday.
You know what that means.
We're gonna have a special guest!!

Next Monday, March 9th is a VERY special day! It is the birthday of someone we all know and love.

Once upon a time, on the ninth day of the month of March in the year 1968 a beautiful baby was born. A beautiful baby girl.

She had an older sister who adored her completely...for about the first 6-8 years anyway. Then that older sister became a teenager and did her best to torment the little sister. You see, the older sister had already built a wall around herself so even if her feeling were hurt, no one would know. But the younger sister, well, lets just say it was pretty easy for the older sister to find ways to upset the younger sister...and she did...probably close to daily.

Eventually, the older sister grew up and realized that the younger sister was actually a pretty cool person. Her (younger sister's) feelings were still VERY easily hurt but the eventually the older sister did everything she could to prevent that from happening.

More years went by and the younger sister toughened up a bit, I'm not saying that she still didn't get her feelings hurt very easily. But she did get better.

The sisters were night and day.

Heat Miser and Cold Miser.

Although both republicans, one was a "hippie" republican and one was a conservative republican (talking wardrobe here). Sometimes people accused the older sister of being a liberal democrat because of how she dressed. let's just say, that never went over very well.

One wore Gaberdine Slacks, nice tops and flat black or brown shoes with maybe a tiny heel or a small wedge.
The other wore Long skirts that reach the floor but were very big around the bottom so they blew in the wind. She would pair it with a pair of hiking books a tank top and a very oversized sweater and was ready to walk out the door.

One had a "power" haircut sometimes but even when she didn't, it was always neat, in place and very pretty. She also scheduled each haircut on the day she would finish the previous one.
The other had uncontrolable curls, hair that flew any and every where and got it trimmed about once or MAYBE twice a year whether it needed it or not. Her hair almost always looked like there was a good chance she had just rolled out of bed.

One had 2 daughters (whose differences are becoming more and more apparent and one is definitely her mommy's girls but the other may just have a bit of her aunt in her).
The other had 2 sons.

A few years ago, they were both supposed to be in the downtown parade (ended up being cancelled due to the DC Sniper). One was going to be wearing an evening gown, sitting on the top of the back seat, in a convertible, waving like a prom queen. The other was going to be in full fire gear rideing on a fire engine, probably carrying an axe.

Yes, they are SO SO different, but do you know what? They can almost finish each others sentences. They both have an odd humor and sometimes they are they only ones that "get" it.
When they get together they talk and talk and talk and laugh and laugh and laugh until they are usually exhausted. They even like the same tv shows....ok, the older and wiser one can do without American Idol, but she does listen to Karen Carpenter so I think that evens things out.

SO.. here is today's special guest, a tad bit early,...from me to you (you know who you are...and so does everyone else...if they were listening)">

Here We Go Again.... Is There An Echo In Here?

You all know the story.

I've referred to it more than once.

If you arrived late and missed the previews, you can go read them at Step Away From The Car, Step Away From The Car Again, Here We Go Again, and Please, Please, Step Away from the Car.
I doubt anyone needs to go back, but I needed practice on linking anyway.

So Here We Go Again.
It's time.
He has to start driving again one day.
He has been punished.
He has not driven for 4 months.
He's been to driving school.
He is taking money out of every paycheck to help out.
He did his community service hours for the accidents.
Both accidents were due to inexperience, weather conditions and probably not paying enough attention.
Neither accident was due to recklessness, drugs, alcohol, speeding or acting careless.
The police liked him.
The judge liked him.
I love him.
It's time.
I'm , well, understandably, nervous.
But we've worked together.
We've practiced.
We've have talked about just about every possible scenario.
We've talked about how it would affect me and SO MANY OTHERS if he was killed in an accident.
We've talked about how it would effect him, me, and SO MANY OTHERS if he accidentally killed someone else in an accident.
We've talk about injury from accidents.
We've talked about the fact that he will lose his license for 18 months-2 years if he even gets a ticket.
We've talked about INSURANCE.
We've talked about the fact that we CAN NOT buy another car.
We've talked...
and talked...
and talked.
He's a teenager, but I THINK he listened.
We've practiced...
and practiced...
and practiced.

The judge still trusts him to drive.
So do I.
I'll say a prayer every time he gets behind that wheel.

We have REALLY, REALLY been blessed that there were no injuries before.
He obviously has an angel on his shoulder.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

I present to you, Car #3.
The 1989 Chrysler New Yorker Landau. Mary Kay Pink with Red Plush Interior. (I told him, No Fuzzy Dice Hanging From The Rear View Mirror!)

SOMEONE will see him at all times. "Surprisingly", it's the only one of its kind in the area.
He knows that EVERYONE will recognize him and that if he is goofing around while driving I WILL FIND OUT.

HE LOVES IT!!

OK, He would have loved ANY car at this point, but he actually LOVES this car. He says it is the coolest car he could have hoped for. Except for, of course, the famous El Camino.

Not too many teenage boys could get away with driving a pink car.
JM can.
Not only will he be able to get away with it..... but I wouldn't be surprised if a few more pop up in the area within the next year.

One last thing.
When you say your prayers tonight, please ask God to keep him safe.
Thank You!!

Today is Tuesday. You Know What That Means.... 2-24-09

Today is Tuesday.
You know what that means.
We're gonna have a special guest....

Recap of JM's driving "minor incidents".

7-07 Got Driver's License. We gave him my 1991 Nissan Sentra that I had driven for 16 years, (best car I ever owned).

Within 13 months of having his license...

1. I showed him how to check oil...forgot to replace oil cap....after driving a day like that, entire engine soaked in oil and alternator ruined (I take responsibility for this one).

2. Hydroplaned, ended up in ditch.

3. Forgot to turn off headlights. Battery dead.

4. Went to spit out window (a guy thing?), missed, looked away for "1 second" to wipe off window, drifted out of lane, over-corrected, ran off road, blew out 2 tires.

5. Hit a deer, knocked off side mirror, broke rear window, cut hand (minor cut...the guy at "Waffle House" told him he didn't need stitches.

6. Learned that when the little arrow is pointing to E that your car won't move.

7. Backs into friends garage, breaks tail light.

8. Stopped at stop sign but didn't see other car coming. Pulled out in front of it..... Little red Nissan is totaled.

2 months later we find him another car.
Great deal. 2004 Chevy Cavalier with 54,000 miles for $2,000. Excellent condition.
Drove it for 16 days.

9. Rear ended a car that was turning....Little Blue Cavalier is totaled.

Court, Fines, Community Service, Driving Class, made him deposit money from every paycheck into a bank account for insurance AND we took his license for 4 months (can hardly believe the judge let him keep it).

ANYWAY, today's special guest, The Playmates 1958, is a prelude to my next post...">

Computer Games Challenge February 23 thru March 23

I have never been able to understand how people can get addicted to video and or computer games. Especially adults. After all, they are mindless and an INCREDIBLE waste of time (not the adults, but the games...well, now that I think about it....ANYWAY).

Just for fun, a few months ago I tried out this mindless Bubble Game on my computer (Edie...lol)
All you do it pop the bubbles. Pretty easy. A bit relaxing and a chance to give your mind a break. Over time I pretty much mastered it.

Looking around I found another game called Flash Gold Miner. Well, it was good for eye-hand co-ordination....

Need to use your brain just a wee bit?...computer solitaire is easy and fun.

WHOA!!!

Each level in the Gold Miner Game is one 1 minute. What's the harm? Reminds me of a Happy Days episode. Richie was drunk and he told his dad that all they had to drink was beer in teeny tiny little glasses. His dad asked how many glasses did he have. his response, "78".

um, Monkeys Are Funny

Too much of even an innocent thing can be ridiculous and a MAJOR time killer. (not to mention, in Richie's case, an awful headache the next day).

I'm done with all silly (and even not silly--if there are any) PC games. No, not forever, but for... hhmmm. ONE MONTH!

I have put a jar on my computer desk. If I even open up a game on the screen, I am going to put 50 cents in the jar. Because I played gold miner this morning before I made this post, I'll even put in 50 cents just to start things off.

HOPEFULLY, the jar will remain empty, but if it doesn't, All the money in it will go to a gift to give away on my blog. It could end up being a dollar store gift or something much more. it depends on my self control. (no fair rooting for me to play more games just to up the ante!)

Everyone that comments today will be entered into the drawing. I will put that list aside and then 3 or 4 more times within the next 30 days I will tell people that the comments that day will go into the drawing. Just think, some of you may get 2, 3, maybe even FOUR chances to win!!!
HOW EXCITING!!! Of course, I don't plan on your prize costing more than 50 cents.... we shall see.

This is a one month challenge I am giving myself, starting today, .

Wish Me Luck!!!!!!!

P.S. And don't worry about me not putting the money in fairly...thanks to Kelly and that dag-gone lying thing, I have to be honest.....sigh* : )

*Also my kids know and they are going to be watching and probably even checking my computer history!*

Dear Mary

What if you could send a letter to yourself and then back date it so you would have received it when you were 20 years old?I know we cannot live in the past but what if.....

Can you imagine? If you were anything like I was at age 20, you would have read the letter, smiled politely and then, more than likely, continued on just as if you hadn't read the letter in the first place.

Still, just suppose...

Pam, at Alert & Oriented X 4, wrote a letter like that at her post, (no, not to me when I was 20 but to herself).

I wonder what I would say to myself. hhmmmm

Dear Mary,

THINK! Just take 5 minutes to think before you act.

For someone so young you have been through a lot. You've changed from a stocky, quiet and insecure teenager to a thin, attractive and seemingly self confident young woman. If I didn't know you so well, I would think you had everything under control. To everyone else you appear confident, happy and able to handle any obstacle that comes your way. You like almost everyone and almost everyone seems to like you. The only person that I can think of that really doesn't like you...is you. SO, at the risk of sounding like ...... well, sounding like you will sound like in 20 plus years, I want you to take a deep breath and open up to someone. Tell SOMEONE what's going on inside of you. Otherwise you probably never will be able to.

And Mary, you're a good person. Remember that you have options.
THINK! Just take 5 minutes to think before you act.

I'm only going to nag you about one more thing and then I am going to tell you some really neat things. KEEP VISITING YOUR GRANDPARENTS!! I know you are getting to an age where you want to spend time with your friends and have fun but, remember all the wonderful summers that you spent with them? Well, they are getting older and won't be here forever. Cherish the time you have with them. Would it hurt you to visit them once every 1-2 months?

OK, I'll try to stop being a pest now. Anyway, guess what? Remember how everyone (including yourself) was almost POSITIVE that you would never want or have children? Well, you are going to have 2! They are going to CHANGE YOUR LIFE!! Don't laugh, but the phrase "Stay at Home Mom" isn't as bad as you think.

Oh, and guess what again. You aren't CRAZY!....well, maybe just a little but not in a bad way. You have something called ADHD. The good news is that there are medications for it. The bad news is that you will be "still very symptomatic" by the time you are diagnosed so the meds just sort of take the edge off. It's ok though. You won't mind most of your quirks and it really seems to help you find the humor in everyday life. Oh, but do yourself a favor. Try to remember that everyone doesn't always appreciate or even understand that "humor". You may want to work on not rambleing off every single thought that comes into your head. If all else fails, hum The Brady Bunch theme song to yourself before you speak.

Oh yeah. here are just a few quick things you may want to think about..

1. Please PLEASE take off that headband! It's ok to wear them in your hair, but not around your head like you are a cross between a Solid Gold Dancer and Pocahontas.

2.Henry Winkler really isn't as cool as you think he is. Think about it. Who skies in a leather jacket? Maybe you can write a letter to the producers of Happy Days and tell them not to let him "Jump The Shark"!! (but save your full size poster of him...maybe one day you can sell it on e-bay, (no, e-bay is not a fishing hole...well, some people might say it is!)

3. The world will not end if you miss an episode of Knots Landing! In 20 years you won't remember whether Gary and Valene ever got back together anyway. BUT if you do want to know, you will be able to BUY entire seasons of it on DVD. (Don't worry.....you'll know what DVD's are, and believe me, they're a lot better than Beta.).

4. Donate that set of 1976 Funk and Wagnalls Encyclopedias. You will NEVER, EVER use them. When you have kids, they won't either. They won't need to.....they can get all the info they need just by Googleing! (don't ask...you'd never believe me).

5. Don't let your oldest son drive before he is 18 years old. BELIEVE ME!! You'll save THOUSANDS of DOLLARS AND A LOT of STRESS!!

6. Be happy with how you look.

7. Buy Circuit City stock but BE SURE TO SELL it in 2007!!

8. You know that old Bible that you have on your bookshelf? Well, pick it up and read it once in a while.

9. Take a few college courses. One day almost all job interviews will be done on a computer. Even though you are a good "people person", you don't look that good on paper.

10. You may not think it is vital, but it REALLY wouldn't hurt you to put a little moisturizer on your face once in a while! I KNOW that you know you are never going to age, but just for kicks, try it anyway!

There is a ton of advise I could give you, but I know you well and you're going to do what you want anyway....SO....if you get just one thing from this letter, then let it be.....

THINK!! JUST TAKE FIVE MINUTES TO THINK BEFORE YOU ACT!!!!

That's all,

Oh yeah, one more thing, believe it or not, one day you will be able to sigh your letters "Love, Mary", instead of just "See ya!". (I knew you wouldn't believe me!).

Love,
Mary
