Deep Ponderings

I was just wondering. Is there anyone out there that knows what a "Vegemite Sandwich" is? Anyone, that is, other than His Princess because she is from Australia. That is where they originated. I know what one is ONLY because I googled it. Do any of you know WITHOUT googleing it?

The reason I am asking is because once when I was on vacation, I was buying bread from a man in Brussels. He was six foot four and full of muscles. I said "Do you speak-a my language?". He just smiled and gave me a vegemite sandwich.

Anyway, I took it but it really didn't look very appetizing and when he wasn't looking, I tossed it.

AND, I was just wondering if I'm the only person that had never seen one.
That's all. MyADHDMe

I've heard of them. I didn't look this up (you said don't Google it) but in my head it would be a sandwich spread maybe from chickpeas or tofu or something like that. I have not found those to be appetizing. : ) YOu've been to Brussels? As in Belgium? Are you being funny?

My ADHD Me said...

After he gave me the sandwich, I said to the man are you trying to tempt me?
Because I come from the land of plenty.

A dark brown food paste made from yeast extract, used mainly as a spread on sandwiches.

Tastes similar to bouillon. Spreads like peanut butter.

I knew what it was just because I have a know it all in the family who looked it up with the song was popular. So do you come from the land down under?

I knew it without Googling only because i am old enough to have seen a few things. ;-)

On purpose- Come on, you know's where women glow and men plunder.

On Purpose said...

So somewhere down under there are NOT women doing the work but rather men! And these men are hard at work.

Hey there I have been crazy this last week. I am in Charlotte with the girls. When you figure out what you would like let me know. The letters also come in white or if you would like something else. It is my favorite store. Key chain with your whatever letter. Lots of cute stuff. So if the car letters dont work for you let me know what your initials are I can send you something else:) Have a great week.

Well thankyou very much. I'm now going to have that song stuck in my head for the entire day!

Vegemite is an acquired taste. We grow up on it down here so think nothing of it. (A bit like they think nothing of eating cow testicles in Mongolia...strange analogy...sorry if anyone is eating!) It's vegetable and yeast extract, hence the name vegemite. You spread it very thinly as it is quite strong. Unless you are my dad who has it an inch thick.

You can also dissolve a teaspoon of it in hot water and drink it (I'm not a fan). Or melt butter on weetbix (do you have weetbix?) and spread a little vegemite on top. Also good used in soups and stews for extra flavour.

They have it in the UK, only they call it Marmite. And we have another brand who make Promite, which I like better but I've been told that's un-Australian.

Oh, my. I cannot stop laughing!
And now my son thinks I'm a total nut case because I cannot explain why I'm laughing. Your quote of Men at Work just really tickled me.

I loved that song, and always did wonder what a vegemite sandwich was. Never found out.

But the, I don't come from a land down under, so what do I know???

Thanks for the laugh. And if you ever meet my son, please tell him I'm not a nut case. It's just something that happens to me whenever I hang around YOU. *grin*

I knew what Vegemite is but I didn't know the song.

I heard about Vegemite in a mosaic group I was once in. There was someone from Australia who raved about it and I finally asked her about it. Curosity got the better of me so I ordered some online. Blech! Total waste of money. :)

I know what Vitameatavegemin is too. lol.

Poor grammer. WAS not Is.

The sound you make after tasting Vegemite.

Curosity - Wrong!

I'm going to bed now.

Men at Work, not to be confused with Men Without Hats, who gave us the Safety Dance, which was a warning about eating vegemite sandwiches....

I met a strange lady,
She made me nervous,
She took me in an gave me breakfast

Moral: Beware of strange ladies inviting you in for vegemite sandwiches for breakfast; they should make you nervous!

(I still have their album!)

My ADHD Me said...

The Safety Dance...a WHOLE different story..haha

all of these songs are little before my time....

I've never had vegemite, but I do know where Brussels is, does that count?

Chatty Kelly said...

We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
'Cause your friends don't dance and if they don't dance
Well they're no friends of mine.

next topic of discussion..

Chatty Kelly said...

Safety Dance: Though music fans have often interpreted the song as a metaphor for nuclear war, a call for safe s*x, and even a protest against club slam dancing bans, Stefan Doroschuk said in an online interview that "The Safety Dance" is about nonconformism and everyone's ability to leave their friends behind and strike out on their own.

My ADHD Me said...

That's one interview...I've heard others. However, if you got your info from the Must Be True. I, however, got my info from the historically accurate show called Remember the 80's on VH1. lol

Well, I wonder what song will be stuck in my head all day!

I was just "pondering" if I should give my input about what a "Vegemite" thingy is. But, I don't think I will go there..

I was also just being overcome with a 'guilt complex' for some odd reason. hmmm

anyway, I thought I would just drop in (late) and say that I think MY ADHD the best thing since 'CountryCrock'

Your words sound vaguely familiar. Must be deja' vu.

I don't know what it is, but I read about it on someone's blog a while back and she said it tasted awful.

Looks like you confused a bunch of people. They met a young lady; she made them nervous. They all thought she was from the Land Down Under.
