But awshifer, I washent drinking...

Every now and then I am asked to tell a story about a fire fighter adventure. Although there are of course some very ugly things that are seen, there are also some situations that are interesting, exciting and/or just plain funny.

There are times when we leave a call and can feel the sadness of it for days and there are also days when we walk away and truly know what a huge difference we made.....those are the days we go out for ice-cream--lol.

Anyway, Drinking and Driving....Stupid. No way around it, it is just plain stupid. The sad thing is, when I was young and stupid, I did it. God looked out for me. I remember once when I was about 19 or 20, I ran my car off of the road after a night of drinking. It was probably 3 or 4 AM. A man I didn't know pulled over and asked if I was ok. I said I was. I told him that some OTHER drunk driver had run me off the road. He told me it was obvious I was drunk and could he give me a ride home. Like I said, I was 19 or 20 and he was probably about 40. Like most people that are intoxicated, I had absolutely no inhibitions. I thanked him and hopped right in his car. Well, the most incredible thing happened. He took me straight home! Before he dropped me off, he told me that I should never have gotten in the car with him. He told me how he could have done anything to me and I would have had no way of preventing it. He was right, of course. Even though that was a time when I wasn't paying very much attention to God, He obviously was keeping close tabs on me. (however, He did remind me of my misdeeds and did nothing to prevent that throbbing headache I had for the next 2 days......Perhaps that was his way of trying to remind me not to do THAT took a few more headaches after that to get the message across)

Hey, this story isn't supposed to be about me.

Monkeys Are Funny

One night, around 2 or 3 AM we got a call at the firehouse. We were told there was an overturned vehicle on a country road in our area.

When we arrived, the car was upside down, smoking just a bit and all the windows were broken, airbags deployed etc. There was also blood on what was left of the windshield and on the steering wheel. We secured the car and spent about an hour searching the woods, with flashlights, for the occupants of the vehicle. Nothing.

After about an hour, we got another call that there was a car wreck victim at a house about 2 blocks away from where we were. We went to that address, and there sitting outside was a kid about 18 or 19. He was scraped, bumped and bruised. There was a small gash on his head also, but other than that, he was fine. Well, he was "feeling no pain" at that particular moment. And yes, you guessed it, the car a few blocks away had been his. After his accident, he had walked to a friends house.

While I was checking him out and cleaning him up a bit, he was carrying on about how his car was ruined but how cool it had been while it was happening. (I'm thinking that the alcohol in his system prevented him from seeing the policeman standing right behind me).

Although he appeared to have no serious injuries, it was decided he should still go to the ER to be checked out. He said he didn't have a ride....that was ok, there was a friendly policeman there who was happy to give him a private escort.

Anyway, it's the one liner that he said that made this a funny story. After he finished listening (or pretending to) to me about how lucky he was and about how he should never drink and drive etc etc etc. He looked at me and the policeman and said in the most earnest voice, "But I WASN"T drinking and driving. I swear I wasn't. I made sure I finished ALL my drinking BEFORE I decided to drive home!"

and he was serious.

Have a great day!!! MyADHDMe

Exidia The Word verification Box

It's time to kill the WVB ( Word Verification Box).

A moment of silence please, while we all remember the good memories we shared. Ah, what fun it was to try to read the scrambled letters, only to mistake an "r" for an "n". Oh, the joy of being able to re-type our comments. Yes indeed, Those days gone by, will forever be remembered.

Alas, The WVB will be missed, but fortunately, its passing did not take away the knowledge of all the new words that we never even knew existed.....until now.

exidia- gracefully depart the room. "It is now time for the WVB to exidia."

alized- to understand something the FIRST time around. As opposed to the 2nd time (which would be RE-alized. "As soon as I saw the storm I alized I was going to get wet."

adrima-When an Italian gentleman has thoughts, while he is asleep. "Last a-night I had an adrima and it-a kept me awake-a all night-a long."

mitess-The Golden Touch. "Every investment he makes, turns out great. He must have mitess."

nonflo- what the water does when you put a plug in it.

civeri- It's that same Italian gentleman. "He has a big smile on his face. He's-a-very (He is civeri) happy."

lexomed- Medication taken for those who aren't satisfied with the car they own and want a Lexus instead.

dompulf- The kid wearing the dunce cap.

musigne- A word invented for a new movie that is being released. It is a knock off of Planet of the Apes. It is called Planet of the Moose. That is if the moose will sign the contract. "Hey Bob, we need a musigne before we can start filming!".

andum- The word used when you are finished talking and or writing, and can't think of anything else to say.....

"Well, andum, I guess I'm done with this list now."

Adventures in DMVing

Before I get started here, I want to give you a little tip. When your driver's license renewal form says be sure to renew during the month of your birthday, it actually means "be sure to renew during the month BEFORE your birthday", if you are born on the 1st day of the month. (I know, April Fools on me!). Otherwise you'll be obliviously driving around with an expired driver's license.

Do you ever get that feeling, when you step into a DMV, that "You are now entering The Twilight Zone"?

(a quick picture puzzle for your enjoyment) (do you get it?)

Anyway, I knew before I left my house that it was going to be "one of those days". First of all, I was quite proud of myself for not waiting until the las
t minute to go renew my license. But as I was talking to Chatty Kelly on the phone, I re-read the renewal form and got that feeling in the pit of my stomach that rather than going 2 weeks early, I was 2 weeks late.

So off I go to DMV. I should have known things were
n't going to go as expected when I missed my exit and had to backtrack. Oh well. After I arrived, I reached into my "bag of expressions", grabbed my Scarlet O'Hara smile, plastered it on my face and approached the counter.

"Hello, I'd like to renew my driver's license please".

The lady at the desk took my form and then, while simultaneously picking at the piece of a breakfast burrito that was stuck in her teeth, proceeded to inform me that it was expired.

"Do you have your birth certi
ficate or passport?".
Hhhmmmm, I was SURE I had brought them. I always keep them in my back pocket...just in case.
That Scarlet O'Hara smile didn't even phase her.
"I'll need to go home for that."
She didn't even look back at me....."Next!"

I rushed home. I just knew they had a policeman stationed outside to building, waiting to pull me over for driving with an expired license, but I made it without incident. Oh, yeah, It had started to rain too. I Knew exactly where my birth certificate was (HA, one of those organizing tips worked after all), and returned to DMV. Went BACK to the lady at the desk, got my number and took a seat. I was #A 48. As I sat down, they called #A 46. This was going to be a breeze.

Then they called the next number. It was #E 169. HEY, what happened to A's? Then they called #C 243 and #B 123. HHmmm, this could be a while. #C 244. THAT'S NOT FAIR. C's are mover quicker than A's!

As I looked around at the other patrons, I had the strangest feeling that I had somehow slipped out of Virginia and was sitting somewhere in the middle of Deliverance, USA.

Finally they called my number. After I somehow pulled off the eye exam, they informed me that I needed a new picture. Hey! I like my old picture. It was 8 years ago. Too bad. "Have a seat and we'll call you back for your picture". *sigh*

They called my name to take the picture. "Sit down in that chair a
nd we'll take your...FLASH...all done."

"Go wait and we'll call you when it's ready."

I really, really had to go to the ladies room by now, but I just KNEW that if I went, they would call my name. I waited and waited and finally decided I really didn't have a choice. Of course as soon as I entered the stall, I heard over the loudspeaker..."MyADHDMe, Please come to the desk"

After I returned from the ladies room, I went to the
desk, "You called my name?"

Finally, someone said, "Oh yeah, you're done".

I looked at the picture. I didn't like it as much as the last one, but in 8 more years I'll probably love it and once again dread parting with it. (it's amazing how much younger one looks 8 years ago!)

Oh, and the reason I mentioned the rain guessed it. Roseanne Rosanna Danna.
On a final note, I must admit it could have been worse. $32.00 renewal fee for 8 years really isn't that bad AND they didn't even charge a fee because it had expired.

"Well Jane, it just goes to show you....."

The Dreaded Word Verification

The dreaded word verification.

You know what I'm talking about. It's that little square that comes up after you have written a comment on someone's post. There is something about that, that drives me crazy-er. It's just a minor inconvenience. It's just the fact that sometimes they write it so blurry or "squiggally" (new word) that I end up having to type it in more than once.....sometimes more than twice. Once I think I had to write it in 3 times but I don't think I've ever had to do it four times. What is even worse is when you copy the word incorrectly and your comment erases. Remember, my attention span isn't quite what it should be. My first comment may be full of compliments or funny responses, then it erases whe
n I mess up the word then not only have I forgotten what I wrote, but there is a good chance that I have even forgotten what I read! You know what happens then.....the notorious "Nice Post" comment. hhmmmm....that made me think of The Notorious Missionary in Spain. Notorious comment....Notorious Missionary..... I haven't visited her in a while. I think I'll pop over there after I'm done here.

Where was I? Monkeys are funny.

Oh yeah. Anyway, as much as I dislike the Word Verification, it looks like I am going to have to enable it on my blog for a while. It seems that I have a new "blogger buddy" straight from, um, straight from, er, straight from a county that doesn't speak English. China or Japan maybe? I don't know.

As much as I enjoy new readers, somehow, I don't think this individual is actually reading my posts. Granted, quite often many of you don't "get" my posts.... usually because they may not be "getable"
(another new word). But a least you understand the words. (even when I use words like squigally and getable).

Also, there is something about this individuals comments that make me think that we really won't be following his/her blog either. Perhaps I get that feeling because of the fact that the comments usually read something like...
Chinese symbols for about one or 2 lines...then the word PARTY in English, followed by more chinese symbols.
Do you think....Is it possible...could it be....Canned Corn Beef? Or even worse....SPAM!!

ANYWAY, I will be adding the word verification to my blog for a week or so. Then I'll remove it and see if I was able to get my blog off of this individuals mailing list..... actually, CK, could you do it for me?

SO, bear with me....or monkey with me??

30 X 5 Recap.

Recap of 30 X 5.

Oh for goodness sake! 30 X 5. To "move" for 30 minutes, 5 times a week, for 2 weeks. EASY!!

Yep, that's what Linda, at 2nd Cup of Coffee wanted us to think.

I'm moving all the time. This was to be a VERY easy commitment to keep.
So why did I get that feeling in the pit of my stomach as soon as I hit the reply button on the comment section?

Well, I committed, so I would do it. Just when I thought it couldn't get any worse.....there was a reply in MY comment section. It was Chatty kelly. SHE committed too. ACCOUNTABILITY! "Lets walk together!" she said.

umm..... ok.

Don't get me wrong. I love CK and love talking and visiting. It's that
accountability thing. I love walking with someone too. It's just that darn accountability thing. Then there's that little factor of CK and I being the Heat Miser and the Cold Miser (literally AND figuratively).

CK- "Brrrr. It's cold"
ADHD- "Whew! It's HOT out here!"

CK -"Let's go 31 minutes just to be sure"
ADHD- "28 1/2 minutes. That's close enough"

CK.- " OK, Lets go".
ADHD- "WAIT...I need a water bottle. I should grab a t-shirt in case I get warm (those hot flashes can come out of nowhere). Where's my cell? Opps, I forgot to lock the car. ..." 20 min later...."Ok, lets go."

ADHD- "It's raining. I guess we'll do it tomorrow instead"
CK- "It's raining. Good thing the church has an indoor track".

CK-"I did an hour today. Extra credit, I guess".
ADHD- "I did an hour today. Does that mean I can skip tomorrow?"

So you get the idea.

DAY 1- DID IT! Worked HARD in the backyard stacking fire wood.

DAY 2- DID IT! Walked with CK.

DAY 3- Very Sore from moving firewood on Day 1. I'll skip today

Day 4- Migraine

Day 5- Migraine

Day 6- Migraine

Day 7- Had what I call a "headache hangover", when your headache is ALMOST gone, but ready to jump out and grab you it you move too fast.

Day 8- Maybe I'll walk tomorrow.

Day 9- 30X5, What was that again?

Day 10- Phone call from CK. "How is your 30X5 going"....I changed the subject (a typical thing for ADHD).

Day 11-Monkeys Are Funny.

Day12- I cleaned today. Does that count? Somehow, I think not.

Day 13- I only signed up because I thought there was a prize!!!

Day 14- I GOT IT!! duh. 30 X 5 = 150!!

Why didn't I just say that in the first place?MyADHDMe

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday.

I see many of you do the Thankful Thursday Post. I think the first time I saw it was at Chatty Kelly's Blog. I've never joined in before but this week I really need to.

1. I am thankful for people that go out of their way to make my birthday special. These people know that I won't make a big deal about a birthday AND they know that if my birthday passed by without any fanfare I would be fine. HOWEVER, they also know how good it feels to be reminded that there really are people that do care about you and really do like you...."They really like you!". Because of them, I know it now also! SO, thanks Chatty Kelly and Edie for the birthday post AND thanks everyone for all the nice comments......special thanks to God's Girl and Lea at the Shabby Ole Potting Shed for the many MANY birthday wishes and trivia. (I can handle that ONCE a year)...and God's Girl...I'm on to you AND on to who those Anonymous comments were from! : )

2. I am thankful that we have all of our needs and many of our wants. Lately, I am seeing more and more unemployment. Not only on tv but even in my own neighborhood. I have always been a frugal person. Not a miser, but pretty careful about where I spend our money. I am very thankful that I have never had to worry about having enough money to feed my kids or for any of life's necessities. (AND that I am still able to throw in a few of those WANTS every now and then!!)

3. I am thankful for family. Even though I carry on about family every now and then, I am VERY lucky. My sisters are wonderful, my neices and nephew are great. I am thankful that my son and his cousin are best friends. AND it isn't very often that you hear someone say they are thankful for their in-laws. But my mother-in-law and her husband are wonderful and are ALWAYS there for me and for my children.

4. I am thankful that someone very close to me, that had prostate surgery, is doing great and is on the road to recovery.

5. I am thankful that a migraine that lasted almost 4 days is now just a small dull thud. ( a small dull thud.... hmmm)

AND, even though there are supposed to be only 5 things....

6. I am thankful that there are still people out there that think Monkey's Are Funny....even after that have read my posts : )

Hi! It's Chatty Kelly here.

This blog has been hijacked by Chatty Kelly & Rich Gifts to wish MY ADHD ME (aka Mary) a Happy Birthday! Knowing Mary as I do (she is my sister) I know she isn't big on celebrating her birthday. As a matter of fact, she's the type that would log in a 2 a.m. (cause she's a night owl) and see this post and delete it. So I changed her password!

Sorry, sis. This is one birthday surprise you aren't going to pull an April Fool's on me.

So HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I love you! (awwww!)

Bloggers, I know how Mary makes you laugh and how you love her blog, so let's fill up her comments with special wishes today.
